Joining Usborne Books & MoreWhen I heard about Usborne Books & More (UBAM), I didn't know what it meant to be a "consultant" and had lots of questions about how it all works. If you're in the same spot, these FAQ will help!
1. What do you do as a consultant?Essentially, you sell kids' books. (Awesome kids' books.) Usborne and Kane Miller books aren't sold in stores; you can only buy them from consultants. As a consultant, you get a special link to the Usborne Books & More website, so customers can buy through your site. You also host parties - on Facebook and in person - to introduce other people to the books and offer one way to buy books.
There are other options available to consultants, too, like running booths at book fairs, organizing fundraisers for schools and libraries, and managing other consultants as a team leader. 2. How much can I earn?Consultants earn 25% commission on direct sales. You can also earn a 4% bonus each month when you reach $1000 in sales - and you can earn even more when you advance to a team leader!
3. What does it cost to sign up?The only cost is a new consultant kit, which is actually a pretty great deal, as it includes a starting set of UBAM books for you to keep (it's essentially buying a collection of books at a discounted rate). The kit also comes with essential business tools, like catalogs and order forms for in-home parties. There are two kit options:
4. Do you have sales quotas or minimums?Nope! You can work as much or as little as you want. After your first six months, you have to pay a small fee to keep your Usborne website link operating, but it's not expensive. Of course, there are great incentives to sell books each month, but it's all up to you (which I love!).
5. What's the time commitment? It's really up to you... because there aren't quotas to meet, you can work as much or as little as you like. When you have Facebook parties, you'll spend time prepping, hosting the party, and answering questions (about 2 hours total), and home parties take about 2 hours plus prep time. Apart from that, the time commitment is based on your own goals!
6. How many books do I need to buy?As many or as few as you like. It's helpful to have a variety on hand to share with friends or on social media, but there are lots of online resources (personal sites like this, YouTube videos) from other consultants to show customers what books are like. Most customers buy their books directly from UBAM through your website link (here's mine), so you don't need to order or ship them yourself.
I've bought a bunch of books since becoming a consultant, but most of them are to use with my own boys or to have on hand for gifts. That's one thing I love about being a consultant - this is a product I would be buying anyway! Win-win. :) 7. How do you learn how to do the consultant thing? There are a few types of resources available once you become a consultant:
8. What else do I need to know?I'm happy to chat and answer any other questions you may have. Just drop me a line!
